My newest blog entry-WINE! I'm a relative newbie to the World Of Wine, but being here in the Washington Wine Country that has taken the spotlight, I feel the rush of new adventures out there!
I can hit the Red Mountain AVA, stop at Fidelitas and talk to Charlie Hoppes about his latest endevour. Try Hedges and Terra Blanca with their Tuscan style facilities and there stylish wines. Drop over to Kiona, start up a wine conversation with Scott Williams and enjoy the oldest vineyards on Red Mountain. There still are several left to see. Had enough and want to get moving? Drive a little further west and you are in the Yakima Valley AVA. Take the Prosser exits and you'll find the strip mall of wine-Kestral, Cowan, Alexandria Nicole and others. Stop in and savor the best viongier at AN. Try the next exit and you'll need to stop at my favorite-Airfield
Winery. The people that own and run the place are the greatest group you ever will meet at a winery. There wines are elegant and yet bold and dynamic to the nose, tongue and senses. Take a tour of their backroom, if you can. Feel like going East? 50 miles later and you are in the Walla Walla Valley and enjoying some of the top rated wineries in the US. Walla Walla is divided basically into 3 areas-downtown, the airport and the outlying wineries. Top wines everywhere.
Leonetti's you can't get there unless you are a member-so skip it. Try Walla Walla Vintners-their called "Baby Leonetti's"-maybe better! The most elegant building holding a winery has to be Basel Cellars. It's based on the Mt.Hood Lodge and is a great place. Grab a bottle or two and enjoy the scenery. Take a day or two and enjoy this area. Better yet make it three.
